Good taste, or bad?

There is a myrtle tree in our front yard. In springtime, a ring of bluebells comes up around it. But they are not just bluebells. They are purple, pink, white and bluebells.

I think the display teeters on the brink of saccharinity. It is just about too much, but I can’t bring myself to take them out.

From the persepctive of where I’m living right now they’re positively subtle.

    I think they look lovely.

Bung some freesias in with them . Go for broke.

Dr Strange Land, they are lovely! Please don’t take them out.

Freesias! Now there’s a good idea. Will do, for next spring.

    They’re gorgeous, leave them there!

I don’t think real flowers are ever in bad taste anyway, expect maybe the ones with wired stems.

  7. George says:

Balance them with something slightly bolder and more defined.

And that lawn looks awfully green for Adelaide. It’s been raining a lot on the east coast too.

Reminded me of this passage from Armistead Maupin’s “Further Tales of the City”:
    —————-
Michael looked up from the task on hand. He was boxing primroses for a Pacific Heights realtor who had fretted far too long over a choice of the pink or the yellow. The realtor eyed Ned bitchily, then resumed his fussing:

‘Of course, there are some potted fuschias on the deck and those are sort of purplish. I mean, the purple might not even go with the yellow. What do you think?”

Michael shot Ned an apologetic glance and tried to remain patient with his customer. ‘All flowers go together’, he said evenly. ‘God isn’t a decorator.’

I would have said Nature instead of God, but otherwise the sentiments seem similar to what PC said.

Not sure about taste, but I like the symbolism of all the colours happily living together jsut the way people should.
