Techy advice, please?

A friend of mine will be visiting from Australia, and she’s wondering what kind of wireless USB plug-in thingie she should get for the week. She is spending most of her time in Auckland, so she will be looking for something that has good coverage there.

I’ve never tried to buy any of the wireless internet access USB plug-ins, so I’m not even sure where to start. Any suggestions, anyone?

The Vodafone one has good coverage, cost $80 at the time I bought (couple of years ago) and would do amply in terms of data consumption. The 3 Degrees one might be cheaper.

The vodafone one is a pit of a pain to set up but don’t know whether any of the others are better, sorry. The price hasn’t changed though.

I hadn’t even thought of that, but Imma need one too. The one I have for Aus is a pain to set up too, so perhaps they all are.

I keep forgetting Vodafone isn’t a swear word in other countries. 🙂

if it’s for her laptop, then save $$ by just going to a mcdonalds and picking up the free wireless. when i was travelling a lot that shthole was my friend in need!

I grabbed a one gig USB from Vodafone for about seventy bucks when I needed wifi

Thanks everyone for the advice. $70 for a week seems a bit steep, I might have to go the Maccas option.

oh, and the other fishhook is that if you don’t use it for a year it becomes disactivated. So you can’t even use it for a yearly visit.

By the way, in Auckland lots of the libraries have free wifi, so much more pleasant than at Maccas.

do it! the stink of the place means you won’t spend all morning looking at the sartorialist. 🙂

although, libraries are good if you can find one.

Me three, I used a Vodafone one last time but from what Tamara is saying that won’t be any use to me this time. Bother.
